Health and Nutrition

Most dancers are concerned about their figure. Some dancers want to lose weight while some only wish to maintain their current weight. If losing weight is your issue, you should to talk to your doctor or nutritionist for help in making a healthy lifestyle change.
If your algebra teacher ever told you that you would use this form of math in your everyday life, he or she wasn't lying! Weight management is basic algebra, so hopefully you were paying attention in class. Basically, y < x or calories consumed should be less than or equal to calories burned. (See Mrs. H, I DO pay attention!) So if you want to lose weight then you should eat fewer calories than you burn, or if you want to maintain you weight, you should eat the same number of calories that you burn.
No matter what, the food you consume needs to be as nutrition-rich as possible while paying attention to portion size. When a change in diet is necessary, some people find it difficult to completely omit their favorite foods and opt to replace some unhealthy ingredients with healthier choices. Others easily avoid certain unhealthy foods, but everyone needs to take a trial and error approach to weight management in order to figure out what works best for you as an individual.
So as you can see weight management doesn't have to be a burden. If you just make a few changes consistently, you will be at your ideal weight in no time!
